Which Blue Out Character Are You Based On Your Zodiac Sign
Do you ever read a book and wonder what star signs the characters are? In certain cases we are told as much. For instance, we know that Harry Potter is a Leo, the sign of the hero with a big heart. And in other cases we can pretty much guess. Sexy James Bond, for instance, screams Scorpio. The characters of Blue Out also display certain star sign characteristics-and are perhaps partly inspired by them. Some characters are “on the cusp” between two signs, meaning that they blend the two star signs’ characteristics. But they still fall under one zodiac sign, their “sun sign” which is where the sun was on their birthday. They’ve also got a moon sign, which governs their instincts, and an Ascendant or rising sign, which is how they show up in the world. So, here’s how the Blue Out characters fit into the twelve signs of the zodiac.
Aries: Alexis Janson
Alexis Janson is Eden Academy’s swim coach and an Aries – heroic, brave and impulsive. A bit of a loner too, Aries is a warrior hero sign. And once you get to know Janson a little better you’ll realise why. Aries is sporty and highly competitive so no wonder Janson is in charge of swim competitions, training people to win. She is pure-hearted, headstrong and forthright – and certainly somewhat reckless. Aries acts first and thinks later (if at all). Still, Aries strives for excellence which is what you need in a coach. You also need a caring nature, which Janson possesses in spades because her Moon is in fiercely caring Pisces. This gives her a powerful protective instinct, especially toward those that are in her charge whom she will defend to the hilt. It also makes her even more tenacious and somewhat intuitive, connecting her to water. Janson has a Sagittarius Ascendant, like Gillan, highlighting her high moral code, free spirit and natural disregard for hierarchies.
Taurus: Duke Kallion
Who doesn’t love an anti-hero? That’s Duke and he’s a Taurus. Why? Because when Taurus sees red, Taurus goes on a rampage! That’s where the “bull in a china shop” expression comes from. Duke certainly exhibits many of those traits… When he’s angry, that is. And he’s almost always angry! That’s because Duke also has an Aries Ascendant and that makes him want to be Number One! He hates losing. Impulsive, competitive, aggressive and uncompromising, he needs to win, to conquer, to be first and best. That explains why Duke often flies into a rage, as he constantly has to play number two to Gillan, who’s doesn’t even seem to try. Duke’s Taurus sign also means he’s the rich kid (material goods being ruled by Taurus) capable of being spoiled, greedy and possessive. In a nutshell, money has largely replaced fatherly love in Duke’s life. Duke has some daddy issues. He is naturally proud and that’s his Leo Moon, a paternal sign. Leo also gives Duke a need for praise and adulation, which he sadly rarely gets.
Gemini: Jim Queen
Jessica’s dad, Jim Queen, is a self-made man riding solely on his wits, and he’s a ‘catch me (out) if you can’ Gemini. This sign makes a fantastic scientist simply because it is unemotional and noncommittal, not invested in any particular outcome or idea. Gemini prefer to experiment and see what happens. Thirsty for discovery, Gemini is innocently amoral too, a child playing with fire. When they say curiosity killed the cat, they were talking about a Gemini! Witty and highly intelligent, Jim, like Gemini, is a chameleon, able to don whatever personality is needed for the moment, easily and gracefully fitting into all walks of life. Gemini is an air sign, and Zephyrus, the company where Jim works, utilises wind power. Jim is a double Air sign, with Aquarius rising, a scientist with a grand vision of the world and the rigorous and strategic mind required to implement it. Jim’s Moon is in gallivanting Sagittarius, and Jim is an explorer above all, far more adaptable than he appears, and far more reckless, thirsty for knowledge and adventure.
Cancer: Nerissa DeLora
Nerissa is the quintessential mother – and a single mother at that – so how could she be anything other than a Cancerian? She’s caring, nurturing and highly protective of her family and her people. Nerissa is tender yet fierce when it comes to keeping her family safe. But she also fusses over them and worries far too much. And that’s no less due to her Virgo Ascendant. She is a natural at tending to the sick and injured, and at mentoring the young – she is a school teacher by profession and a nurse in her spare time. Her Moon is in Pisces, which reflects her daughter’s zodiac sign and also reinforces her instinctive kindness. It also makes her worrying nature even worse, fuelling it with ample imagination from which to draw to think about all the things that could potentially go wrong. Kind to a fault and rather self-sacrificial, she is prone to bouts of sadness and self-pity, as the Pisces Moon is sometimes wont to do, which she resists in a typical Virgo manner, by occupying her hands and by making herself useful.
Leo: Gillan Gallagher
Gillan Gallagher is a Leo, of course, the classic big-hearted, majestic hero. Proud, commanding, noble and loyal, he’s highly admired and looked up to–a natural leader. His birthday is July 23rd and he’s on the cusp between fire and water, like Naya, but it’s the Cancer-Leo cusp. Naya’s and Gillan’s suns indeed trine – his at the start of his sign, hers at the end of hers – making them super-compatible. Cancer on the cusp makes Gillan extra caring revealing some family trauma behind him and Cancer has everything to do with family. Gillan’s Moon is in Scorpio and he’s an extremely private person, more self-contained and reserved than most. He is hard to get to know but also fiercely protective of those he cares about. His Scorpio Moon also gives Gillan lots of grit and stamina. He is, after all, in the military, and a star swimmer. Gillan’s Ascendant is Sagittarius, lending him a high moral character and an adventurous, freedom loving spirit. Sagittarius is also the quintessential tourist, and Gillan is exactly that at school – coming and going as he pleases. Gillan’s Leo and Sagittarius nature give him a great sense of humour, allowing him to brush off most things and remain magnanimous, even while he’s a mystery to others – that’s his Scorpio Moon.
Virgo: Arcadius Proctor
Arcadius Proctor, the nervous and fearful governor of Cape Harmony is a Virgo, or a caricature of one. He represents the more negative traits of the sign, the obsessive compulsive, neurotic nature of Virgo. Proctor is essentially an administrator and Virgos are excellent at all this nitty gritty governance stuff. The best civil servants in the world probably have lots of Virgos in them and we would be lost without them. Virgo rules the nervous and digestive system and Proctor is very nervous and highly strung, constantly worried about the “Aquatic Other” – highlighting Virgo’s negative traits. What makes Proctor a good politician is his Libra Ascendant, which gives him the ability to naturally navigate the political scene. He is bang in the middle of the political spectrum, the perfect compromise candidate, the least offensive one. His Leo Moon signifies his instinctive need for importance and his position as Governor certainly satisfies that. Also, Leo is ruled by the Sun and Proctor’s company is Solaris.
Libra: Jessica Queen
Jessica Queen is a Libra and displays the more negative traits of this normally refined and peace-loving sign. She’s the perfect prom queen, pretty in pink, not a hair out of place, well versed in all things of style and beauty. Much like her Taurus boyfriend, she’s also well off and rather spoiled. She constantly thinks about the mall – clothes, shopping, nails, hair, parties – and, of course, most of all, about whether her boyfriend is attentive enough. Libra’s world often revolves around relationships and social engagements and Jessica’s eye is constantly on Duke and on the social scene. This, of course, is the superficial side of Libra, a sign that, on a deeper level, is all about harmony and beauty in all things. Libra is naturally the most well dressed and socially accomplished sign, and so is Jessica. She could be an expert designer or politician, a master of polite society, not unlike her parents. Adelia, Jessica’s mom, is also a Libra. As Queen Bee, Jessica has Leo rising, the sign of kings and queens, and she naturally enjoys being the centre of attention. Jessica has a Gemini Moon, which is not surprising since she loves to gossip and is a total chatterbox. She has inherited this insatiable curiosity from her dad, even though her interests may be a tad more trivial. But then again, the Queens are late bloomers, or so Jim Queen says!
Scorpio: Helena Calder
General Calder is a formidable and intimidating villain, and – surprise-surprise – she’s a Scorpio. Because let’s face it: villains are the sexiest! But that is in no way to do injustice to that irresistibly alluring star sign. Who does not love a super-villain after all? Calder is militant and Scorpio is part-ruled by Mars. And she is secretive and controlling – playing her cards close to her chest until she’s ready to make her move. Not to mention vengeful! This is what makes her so dangerous! She is inscrutable and mesmerising and an incredible strategist too. Calder plays the long game. She has great political power and access to vast resources pulling many strings behind the scenes – something Scorpio is very good at. Calder is ultimately the catalyst for transformation, which is what Scorpio is best at. Calder is a double Scorpio, with her rising sign in Scorpio too, which makes her incredibly magnetic and alluring. She’s out for power! And she also has a long memory. She’s got the Moon in Capricorn, which makes her excellent at keeping her feelings under wraps, strategic, cold and calculating, not displaying an iota of emotion. Holding rank and rising to the top are incredibly important for Capricorn and so everything within Calder yearns for power and dominion.
Sagittarius: Naya's Father
We don’t know much about Naya’s dad other than that he’s not around. He’s been gone for a while – no one knows where – but if he’s alive at all then he’s certainly a foreigner of sorts, living somewhere far far away. Is it any wonder he’s a Sagittarius? Unable to stay put for too long, he appears to have wandered off and abandoned Naya when she was still young – the dark side of Sagittarius, the freedom-loving wanderer. But Naya’s dad is also the very vision and voice that call Naya to distant shores, to question what lies beyond her little world, to have faith and expand her horizons. He’s the reason Naya seeks answers, coaxing her on, like a true Sagittarius. He is quite elusive and mysterious too and there’s bound to be some Pisces in him. Hopefully we will get to know this guy better soon. As a Sagittarius, he may well have a story to tell…
Capricorn: Douglas Kallion
Duke’s dad, Douglas Kallion, is a Capricorn and, true to the sign, he holds a top position in the world – the corporate world no less – with all the material wealth and trappings attached. This is something Capricorns excel at. Capricorn is a highly ambitious sign, good at making money, staying the course and reaching the top of any profession. Douglas Kallion is rather ruthless and unfeeling, however, – not a very nice guy really – so he represents the negative side of Capricorn. He cares too much about keeping up appearances, and for power and riches to have much of the wisdom that Capricorn often displays. Douglas’ Moon is in Taurus, making him even more greedy and materialistic – the dark side of Taurus – and his Ascendant is in Scorpio, which, again, only increases his lust for power and riches. Kallion’s industry is Mortlake, which uses energy like coal, pulled out from the depths of the earth, which Capricorn rules.
Aquarius: Arlo Quinn
Gillan’s guardian, Arlo Quinn, is a scholar and mentor and an Aquarius. He is an intellectual first and foremost and a bit of a rebel too. He likes to break the rules, exactly like Aquarius, more so if it means safeguarding important principles and ideals, and creating a fairer society for all. Aquarius, much like Arlo, thinks of the bigger picture first, and can therefore also operate quite well in society working in committees, groups and clubs, doing his best to steer them in the right direction, while also remaining slightly detached, the exception to the rule. Aquarius is also the classic scientist which Arlo is, working at the Cape Harmony Research Institute, while also being the guardian of Gillan who is the future head of Galileo Tech. Arlo likes to surround himself with books from Gillan’s library and enjoys plenty a delightful evening burying his nose in one. That’s because he has got Gemini rising. His Virgo Moon makes Arlo a good mentor to Gillan and Naya and eager to be of service and make himself useful, often offering real assistance in an understated, practical way. Virgo is also very scholarly, a most studious sign with a keen eye for detail, which makes Arlo an excellent researcher.
Pisces: Naya DeLora
Naya DeLora is a Pisces, the sign of the fish swimming in the ocean, because Naya is highly attuned to the sea. Her birthday is the 20th of March, one day before the Spring Equinox and her Sun is sitting right on the Pisces-Aries cusp, a impactful place on the world stage, with Aries a distinctively heroic sign. As a Pisces, Naya is exceptionally intuitive, a bit of a daydreamer and a romantic – for instance when she thinks of Gillan, reminisces about the past or projects into the future. But Pisces can also feel misunderstood and victimised, which Naya does when she feels scared or timid or when she is bullied at school. Pisces often lacks self-confidence unless they can connect to something greater, and Naya finds her strength and power by connecting to the sea. It’s a good thing that Naya also has an Aries Moon, which makes her instinctively brave and heroic, and impulsive too, sticking her neck out even against her better judgment. She has an Aquarius Ascendant, which is why she often feels different and unique, why she is often singled out – for good or bad.
